Project Description
This Nissan Xterra PRO-4x was one of the most rewarding projects we’ve done. Our client wanted the entire vehicle sound deadened with a killer audio system. The entire interior was removed from the vehicle, including: the factory wiring harnesses to the rear, all seatbelts, side airbags, computer modules, and the miniscule factory applied sound deadening. We installed the highest quality sound and vibration dampening material on the market by Cascade Audio Engineering to the entire vehicle. We also used low expansion spray foam in places we couldn’t get to by hand. This process alone takes days to complete. When the right products are used and installed correctly, the results are beyond amazing. The sound quality of the ride and stereo system is greatly improved by keeping the road noise out. The best part is when the customer can tell how much difference the deadening makes just by closing the doors, not to mention taking it for a drive!
The new audio system for this Xterra is impressive! It is crystal clear at both low and high volumes. The biggest challenge was fitting the Pioneer AVIC-Z150BH where a double-din wasn’t meant to be. The factory radio (by Rockford Fosgate) is integrated from behind the dash, so we opted to not use the aftermarket dash kit. Instead, we cut into the factory bezel to make room for the new head-unit. We also replaced all four of the stock door speakers with Focal’s 30th Anniversary 165v30 6.5″ components as well as tweeters. The factory amplified subwoofer (under the driver seat) was completely removed and a JL Audio Stealthbox was installed in the passenger rear corner of the cargo area. The factory 12V charging port would have been blocked by the JL Audio enclosure, so we relocated it for easy access. Mounted in place of the factory amplifier and stock bluetooth modules under the passenger seat, we installed a JL Audio HD900/5 (5 channel amp) along with the front speakers’ crossover modules. Over all, it was a lot of work, but the client was blown away by the results.
Once everything was completed, we sat with the customer and listened to their iPod .M4A lossless files (iPod mounted in the cubby above the glove box). Amazing! As far as we’re aware, it’s a one-of-a-kind setup. It’s truly a treat to listen to!
